Healthcare Leadership Article

Leadership can relate to an individual or a group of individuals having the same cause. We will have to understand there are various situations around the world with many different things to surround how individuals would define leadership. Leadership can relate to; religion, community or political. Leadership to me is defined as a person who is appointed the authority to make decisions on behalf of the organization for the betterment of the company.

A personal experience which informed my thoughts about healthcare leadership would be, the quality of patient care. Every patient deserves that quality one-on-one care from their provider. As a leader, I would require my medical staff to take the time to listen to their patients and provide feedback on their care. Communication and observation are critical in any industry however, in healthcare there are lives to save. When patients have quality medical care, they are inclined to participate in their treatment plan. (Abdulaziz Al-Sawai)

An authentic leader must be defined as having the highest qualities such as; morals, values, genuine in spirit and honesty which are based characteristic traits. There are several traits of an authentic leader which are; demonstrating self-discipline, listening skills, consistency, communication, self-awareness, focusing on long-term results, leading with the heart, establishing relationships, connecting relationships and understanding a leader’s purpose and practicing solid values. A leader must be genuine and real, those that surround leaders are able to observe and distinguish the real ones from the fake ones. An authentic leader is not built on style, but it is built on the character of that individual. (Bill George)

       There are several various effective exercises in developing the habits and skills of an authentic leader. One exercise that would develop skills would be, Activity for Authentic Leadership by Fostering Authenticity. This activity is a self-assessment questionnaire which can take a bit of time to complete. The questionnaire allows you to think about various consequences of the many decisions of leadership. The activity also enhances the way you think and react on certain situations. (Bill George)

Leadership exercises are beneficial in determining the style of the leader as well their outlook on various topics. There are certain behaviors a leader must adapt when communicating with his or her employees, the questionnaire provides a section for team building and team bonding. The activity also provides leadership articles to resource and draw innovative thinking and gives theory on leadership skills. Leadership exercises are for any level of management such as; Executives, Team Leads, Supervisors, Presidents, Vice Presidents and Entrepreneurs. Development and growth are utilized to promote confidence, structure, strength and inspiration from leadership exercises. Most companies use leadership exercises with their employees to assist in team building, team relationships or improving their work performance to be successful in their roles. (Bill George)

       To conclude, Leadership is a very important role in any workplace. Leadership skills are essential in the organization and on teams. Communication and listening skills are used daily to motivate and inform team members.  Leadership activities assist with growth in organizations by increasing employee performance and company production, which are associated with benefits to businesses in the communities.
