Fantastic read. CRISPR and AI applications are revolutionizing medicine, agriculture, and genetic modification efforts. In disease prevention, CRISPR is employed to alter mosquito genomes, thereby inhibiting parasite transmission and controlling disease-spreading animal species. In agriculture, CRISPR is being used to create decaffeinated coffee beans, influencing flavor, nutrition, and cost. For biodiesel production, CRISPR is being utilized to enhance algae fat production, thus making biodiesel economically viable. In healthcare, researchers employ CRISPR to modify human immune system genes, and potentially prevent allergies caused by specific proteins. Furthermore, CRISPR is explored to revive extinct species, introducing genes from fossils into modern counterparts. While offering promising advancements, CRISPR raises bioethical concerns, notably in germline editing. Scientists called for a moratorium on inheritable human genome editing, stressing ethical considerations. The controversial case of He Jiankui is worth noting. He claimed to have used CRISPR for HIV resistance in embryos and sparked global condemnation due to potential risks and ethical implications. More about this topic: https://lnkd.in/gPjFMgy7
