Healthcare in Crisis

Tom Reid is a retired Washington Post journalist and bureau chief who was also a regular on BBC TV.

In his book, The Healing of America, and the PBS TV documentary, Sick Around the World, Reid explores healthcare systems around the world in an effort to understand why the U.S. remains the only first world nation to refuse its citizens universal health care.

Tom and I first met in the late 1980s when we lived and worked in Tokyo. We met briefly in Japan late year and discussed how the financial condition of the healthcare system--world-wide but particularly in the U.S.--has continued to worsen.

Fortunately, there are two partial solutions that can be implemented separately from the major political issues that must be resolved in many countries--Telehealth and Telemedicine.
