Healthcare CFO's ..... why are soft assets not depreciated ?
Depreciation .... talk about a touchy subject.
Why is it that a $ 18,000 Operating Room Table can be depreciated over a straight line three to five year schedule and $ 18,000 of Surgical Staplers or Orthopedic Anchors sits on the books at cost until either used or thrown away ? The same table mentioned above is most certainly sold to a used equipment company and that's considered to be a good business decision. Why not use the same logic with your disposable assets that currently are just ticking time bombs, destined for a landfill because of archaic accounting practices ?
