Healthcare Access is a worldwide problem: A story from Hong Kong

At Everyone.org, we have the opportunity to talk to revolutionary healthcare professionals from all over the world. They are often innovators who are trying to challenge the status quo when it comes to global health access and contribute to improving the lives of patients.?

Just recently I had a conversation with pharmacist Sally Ho who came across our organisation while trying to find routes to provide cancer patients in Hong Kong with the latest medicines innovations. Sally has been a mission driven healthcare activist for several years and has been outspoken about the importance of a just and fair access system for Hong Kong patients.?

We know from our patients and their treating physicians that it is sometimes quite difficult to access the newest medicines in some countries in Asia due to economic or regulatory barriers but the future definitely looks promising. Requests for medicines from our Asian patients are generally for innovative anti-cancer medicines approved in the US and Europe years ago and which may have important benefits in their treatment journey.?

An article published by McKinsey & Company stated that China's national healthcare strategy aims to create a 16 trillion RMB broader healthcare ecosystem in 2030. The focus will be on preventative care, healthcare management and services, and paying more attention to key segments of the population, such as women and children. A great ambition!

The projected growth of the Chinese medical innovation market will surely have an impact on the entire continent and will hopefully expedite the evolution of healthcare access to all patients.?
