Healthcare Access is a worldwide problem: Lagos, Nigeria

In this next article of the same series, I’d like to tell you about another health worker who has contacted us recently from Lagos, Nigeria. Funmi Ogunnaike manages a chain of pharmacies in Lagos. With that network of pharmacies, Funmi and her team are responsible to ensure that thousands of patients are supported in the most efficient way when it comes to accessing the medication they need.

Recently Funmi reached out to Everyone.org for a potential partnership in order to help doctors in hospitals in Nigeria with access to potentially life-saving medications for certain types of cancers. Although these hospitals are supported by organisations with funds and access to a number of medicines, it is still not enough to ensure treatment?for everyone who needs them.?

We know from our patients that medicines access is a worldwide problem and especially in the recovering world. In the United States and the global European North, individuals are lucky to eventually have access to new innovations, regardless of delays. In other parts of the world, this is unfortunately not the reality and some medicines will never become approved nor available. Unless something changes.

This is why we exist. At Everyone.org, we want to make healthcare accessible to every patient and their treating physician regardless of who they are, what they have and where they live. And it is by having discussions with the global community of changemakers, innovators and activists from around the world that we can eventually put pressure on local governments and regulators to bring forth this palpable change.?

Most people in the world do not have “good health” as their normal state, which makes it the responsibility of the healthy ones to take advantage of every opportunity to help that comes their way, including the opportunity to work together to give everyone the chance at good health.
