Goal setting is not your first port of call when learning how to turn your annual income into a monthly income.
I always get a few sideward glances and raised eyebrows when I speak or write on this subject. You would imagine it is the first thing to button down for something like turning your annual income into a monthly income.
The most important thing in my opinion is taken from our mnemonic Think WISA.
The first thing we need to do is to think, It sounds obvious, but to clarify I am not talking just about conscious thought I am talking about subconscious thought. More projects and business ventures are scuppered by subconscious thought, than lack of goal setting.
Being aware of what is going on in the dark recesses of the grey matter will better prepare those embarking on a project of any sort. We speak all the time about how 96%-97% of all results (or desired results) are a direct result of subconscious thought.
Lack of programming of the subconscious generally results in failure of said ventures being embarked on. We have to see it first in our minds-eye, in our subconscious, we have to feel what it is going to look like, before the first goal is set.
I often talk about the difference between compulsion and propulsion.
Whenever we feel compelled to do something, it is often accompanied by a sense of having to do something because we have to. Whenever we are told we have to do this, there is always an internal voice that has the murmurings of resentment, something rises up inside us to resist the action.
The opposing side is that when we have arrived at the action ourselves something inside propels us to take action, the difference is that the latter more often than not leads to success. We have awoken the self-propel button in our souls, we can't help ourselves and it is a good thing.
I remember one business we started an Internet Service Provider (like BT and Virgin) back when the Internet was in its infancy, I had to discipline myself to stop working not because I had to but because I wanted to carry on. this was one of the first times I had experienced this kind of self-motivation it was amazing. It was accompanied by a raft of benefits on the journey some listed below

The difference is stark when I talk to people in my coaching business, many people feel trapped exhausted, and directionless, why? because when we investigate the situation further it soon becomes apparent that the first step involved some form of goal setting or action, but with no thought or awareness as to why they are putting themselves through the pain.
A classic example is weight loss programs in the new year everyone feels compelled to get on a program before really understanding that there is a problem lurking inside their minds waiting to leap and scupper the diet, and like most potential dieters the diet has stopped by quitters day on January 12th, and the remaining remnants of dieters have stopped by the end of February.
The spoiler on this is dieters see themselves as having a weight problem, a routine running in the subconscious that will very quickly put paid to any goals set. We must see ourselves and feel the result we want to experience i.e. their goal weight not looking in the mirror and seeing themselves overweight.
Once the motive for doing what they were doing which was causing immeasurable stress and pain, there was often the need for money, and freedom, neither of which were being achieved by their current trajectory.
Thought and awareness are vital in the process of any venture embarked on.
Do goals play a part in the process? Absolutely.
Once we have this raw energy that is propelling us to action we must direct and focus that energy using goals and plans, the full shebang.
