?? Hybrid Vascular Theatre, Lister Hospital
The first of its kind for the NHS and the UK healthcare industry
Lister Hospital requires a hybrid vascular theatre to be built on its site, enabling the hospital to become a specialist vascular surgery hub for the region to ensure round-the-clock access to the early diagnostics, decision-making expertise and emergency procedures necessary for the successful treatment of vascular conditions.
The three-compartment Ultra Clean Air System is a bespoke unit designed specifically for the new hybrid vascular theatre.
“In a conventional operating theatre, you would only normally have 22 total room air changes per hour provided by the air conditioning system. With an Ultra Clean Air System, you also get 22 room fresh air changes plus 500 air changes per hour directly below the canopy. This is a massive difference in air cleanliness and the number of air change rates provided by the system.”– Andy Smith, Technical Director, Medical Air Technology (MAT).
Work on site is progressing well - all modular units have been safely delivered to site.

??New theatre designs
We are working on the design for another hybrid theatre project. As with all of our designs, we give careful consideration to how patients and staff will be using the space; in this particular project, views over the countryside is a key deliverable to ensuring the space provides the surgical team with essential visual breaks, aiding in eye relaxation and reducing visual fatigue during lengthy procedures. This feature has been designed to help enhance the team's focus, performance and patient care, which is particularly critical in this theatre as it will be used for major trauma cases.
