Health Shots InFocus: The New Year Promise
By - Radhika Bhirani
“I am working, but I am working on myself.” When Orhan Awatramani aka Orry, Bollywood paparazzi’s latest obsession, made an honest confession about what he does for a living, the world got a chance to laugh a little. But let’s not look at it as a laughing matter!
Welcome to this edition of Health Shots InFocus, just days ahead of a new beginning, a New Year. And so, I felt compelled to contemplate how time is running out. Too fast and too furiously. Think hard, reflect at the year gone by and you may realise that even if we spend an hour in a day doing what Orry does, what a difference it may bring to our life. Going to the gym, self-reflection, yoga, massage… all that he does, is not bad after all.
Studies across the world have proven that self-care has physical, mental and spiritual benefits. It helps people boost longevity and happiness, as well as manage stress, one of the biggest culprits behind rising health problems.

As a society, we have been promoting hustle culture, rarely pausing to take a breather or some moments to improve the path we are on, My friends tell me how on some days they feel like headless chicken, just doing things because they need to be done, and not necessarily in an organised, productive and satisfactory fashion.
“This race of professional life doesn’t seem to have a finish line in sight,” sighs one friend, who is hopeful that 2024 will be a game-changer for her. I reminded her, “The ball is always in your court!” We have to steer the change we want to see. Instead of making new promises and resolutions that we will end up breaking, why not take a moment to self-reflect and think about the changes we can bring in ourselves or overcome our inner demons to begin the New Year with refreshed energy?
It’s the same question I want to leave you with, as we tiptoe into 2024, and some much-needed ‘health shots’ for a better and brighter you!
