Chronic kidney disease awareness campaign

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects almost 700 million people and only in 2019 CKD led to 3.2 million deaths, with 1.4 mln deaths directly caused by CKD, and 1.7 mln deaths occurred due to impaired kidney function as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Of note, these numbers has doubled since 1990 and continue to increase.

Moreover, regional CKD burden is extremely heterogenous but many countries have one common feature: CKD is not included in health strategies and not presented in the agenda of primary health care education.

CKD can be easily diagnosed by two simple and inexpensive tests: analysis of urine and serum creatinine measurement with subsequent calculation of estimated glomerular filtration rate. However, these two simple tests are not performed in a substantial proportion of high-risk patients having diabetes, hypertension, etc.

Read this article to know about the impact of chronic kidney disease on global health and the importance of its timely diagnostic and see the infographics on global, regional and country-level CKD burden , Power Point slides , and two posters (1 , 2 ) representing the CKD estimates with one message at a time.
