Health and Performance in Action
Theories are all well and good. Models are all well and good. But if it doesn’t work in real life with real people, then what’s the point?

Health and Performance in Action

Last week I shared with you a simple model for how we think about health and performance - specifically, physical health being the foundation of everything that we do.

Improve your health and everything else automatically gets better.

If your health deteriorates, everything else suffers.

?

Models and theories are all well and good, but it's the practical application that's the exciting bit: seeing it working in real life, with real people is what gets my juices flowing - and that’s exactly what I’d like to share with you this week…

The majority of our work is one-to-one coaching, but when you work one-to-one with a whole team who want to perform better individually and collectively, magical things happen!?

?

Here’s a link to a case study of a coaching programme we concluded last year.

First, a little background for you…

This programme involved a team of 9 people who received one-to-one coaching with us, plus 3 x group coaching sessions over a period of 11 months.

?

The timescale is important as it demonstrates the long-term impact and the efficacy in terms of creating true, long-lasting behaviour change.? (So many organisations think they’re doing “health” by holding occasional awareness days - they change nothing)

?

This may sound bold but we want the work we do with people and businesses to be a “fork in the road” for their health, lifestyle and performance, not a “flash in the pan”.

?

Measuring and quantifying “health” and “performance” can be tricky so we use multiple subjective and objective measurements to build up a true picture of the changes.

?

Another interesting point is that this programme involved no delivery of practical, physical training/exercise.??

I mention this as often people assume we rock up and make people do press-ups and star-jumps!? Whilst that can occasionally be useful, what we do goes much deeper…

?

What I especially love about this case study is how it shows not only the benefits to each individual, but it’s clearly evident how that will benefit the team, the business…and their loved ones

Improving health and performance really is a win/win/win/win/win (one for the world too!)

?

If you have any questions or would like to find out more about the programme, reply to this email.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

“Discipline Equals Freedom” by Jocko Willink

Many people re-coil from the word and the thought of “discipline”, but this book shows how on the contrary self-discipline and making conscious choices can create more freedom, purpose, success and more space for expression.? He also talks about how this can help within teams to develop stronger relationships.?
