Is health an organizational priority?
We are all amidst a health pandemic. We are on the cusp of either a third wave or a manageable pandemic.
As work is an integral aspect of our lives, we either own organizations or work for organizations. There are organizations that look after the physical, mental ,and emotional aspects of their employees and those that have a " hands-off " approach towards employee health.
During the second wave of the pandemic, organizations across the world had covered medical expenses of its employees who were down with covid, covered the adults of the family in looking after the vaccination.
Throughout the world, organizations that have looked after the employees health and took all aspects of the employee retain talent and increase productivity for longer times than those organizations which do not look after the health of its employees.
You might say that health is an individual issue and how is organization concerned? As human beings we spend most of our time at work followed by sleep. And most of us sit during work which is also considered to be a " silent killer".
With this backdrop it becomes pertinent when we have " Caring Organizations and HR" who go the last mile in checking the wellness quotient (WQ) of employees. Organizational health is directly proportional to Organizational productivity also. A healthy employee or a worker contributes better to the goal of the organizational than a person who is unwell.

Organizations have introduced annual medical health check ups for its employees where the cost is borne by the organization. These simple interventions help the organizations in the long run.
There are organizations that have a dedicated gym with equipment for those who want to work out as per their schedules. One of my offices had a wonderful gym but we seldom had the time during the day to use it. We used to play table tennis during lunch break which helped us to handle the rest of the day.
As human beings, health in all its facets, physical, mental and emotional and wellness is integral for both personal and professional growth as well as a person who adds value to the organization and community.
We are going to bid adieu to 2021 and welcome 2022. I am optimistic that we all remain healthy and contribute our part to our communities and organizations in 2022 and beyond.
