Health on the Move Educational Caravan: Teaching Students the Importance of a Sound Mind in a Sound Body

This edition of the caravan adopted a more comprehensive approach, addressing a wider range of health topics beyond oral health and recognizing the importance of holistic well-being. We partnered with several esteemed organizations to deliver interactive workshops covering nutrition, first aid, general hygiene, and eye health for over 600 students from the Ude?ti commune.?

Teaching Children Skills for a Healthy Lifestyle?

Volunteers from the True Health Association helped students understand the connection between a healthy diet and emotional well-being, complementing the lessons learned about oral health in the first phase. One student remarked, "The workshop helped me understand the difference between depression and anxiety. It was also interesting to learn that anger is a normal emotion we all experience sometimes!"?

The Novaoptic Ophthalmology Clinic team provided valuable information on eye care and preventing eye problems, ensuring a holistic approach to healthcare education. Gabriela Bodnari from the clinic commented, "They now have information about eye health, meaning they know they should spend less time on their phones and more time outdoors."?

Dr. Ana Cajvan, a pediatrician, went beyond basic hygiene. She empowered students to take charge of their well-being by teaching them the importance of personal hygiene practices, disease prevention techniques, and how to avoid spreading germs to others.?

Finally, SMURD volunteers from ISU Bucovina Suceava equipped students with crucial first-aid skills. Children had the opportunity to see and practice CPR maneuvers on mannequins and learn the Heimlich maneuver under the supervision of trained medical personnel, preparing them to respond effectively in emergencies.

The ASSIST Humanitarian Foundation previously donated the mannequins used by the volunteers to ISU Bucovina Suceava. This highlights the impact of the Foundation's work, as the good we do returns to the community by potentially empowering students to save lives.?
