A health boost we can all benefit from
I was relieved to see that gyms would be reopening and there would be a return to outdoor grassroots sport, across all tiers in England, as part of the easing of lockdown restrictions as we head into the festive period.
Last week, I spoke in a video for International Men’s Day where I shared how important exercise is to me, both physically and mentally. For the last 20 years, I’ve committed to getting up early and working out. With the gyms closed because of lockdown, I’ve adapted to home workouts to make sure that I stay active and maintain my routine – and I’ll be back on the gym floor from next Wednesday.
For me, exercise is about two things. First, it’s about personal fitness and making sure that I’m as healthy as I can be. Secondly, exercise is about taking time to focus on one specific activity and to distract myself from other things happening around me, whether that’s work or personal. It’s a time when I can clear my mind, put things into perspective, and completely shift my mindset for the better.
Health and Wellbeing plays a key part in St. Modwen’s approach to being a responsible business, and forms one of our six strategic ambitions where we can make a difference to both our colleagues and communities.
Lockdown has been challenging for many people, with isolation, loneliness and inactivity all negatively impacting our physical and mental health. However, we can play our part in making small improvements. I would encourage everyone to seek an activity that they enjoy to keep themselves active as we head towards Christmas. I’m speaking from personal experience when I say that it can provide a huge boost to how you’re feeling.
So true, Rob. And you walk/run the talk!
