Be A Health Advocate For Your Aging Loved One
If you're caregiving for an aging loved one, you've also become their health advocate as well, whether you know it or not.
To take this role seriously, Senior.com has compiled a small list of things you can do to better advocate for your aging loved one's health.
- Prepare for doctor's appointments. Speak with your loved one ahead of time. Ask how they are feeling and if anything is bothering them or if they're in any pain. Write down questions, comments, and concerns as well to bring up with your physician as well.
- Take notes during the appointment. By writing notes, you and your aging loved one will better understand what the doctor said or why certain decisions were made.
- Check in with your loved one. Make sure they understand what's being said and what it means.
- Annually, ask for a full medication review. This action empowers you to know if the medications are working well together. Take the prescription bottles in with you and ask as many questions as you feel necessary.
