We are sailing through these tips, and #6 is near and dear to my heart: EAT RIGHT TO FEEL RIGHT!
What we eat and how we feel are intimately linked. Want to stop the crazy-making-cravings-cycle? Consuming brain-healthy foods can help us make better DECISIONS that lead us to FEEL better by helping to keep blood sugar levels stable. And when we feel better, we are more susceptible to make better choices. Around and around the cycle goes!
How do we do it? At every single meal and snack, ask yourself, "Where is the PROTEIN?" Protein has an uncanny ability to quell sugar cravings. Where do you find it? Nuts and seeds. Beans and legumes. Animal protein (eggs, fish, Greek yogurt, poultry, red meat, etc.). Quinoa. Hemp hearts (I use them instead of protein powder in a smoothie--WAY more nutritious and nothing added!).
How else do we do it? Eat FAT. How? Salmon, walnuts, avocados, olive oil.... Drink WATER. You won't believe how a craving can disappear once we have hydrated our brains and bodies! LIMIT JUNK. Avoiding refined carbohydrates and sugar-laden foods as often as possible can improve impulse-control by helping us calm the part of our brain that is driven by reward. We also change our taste buds when we eat more whole foods and fewer "food-like-products", adapting them to CRAVE more nourishing options.
