The Healing Power Of Time
I recently had the pleasure of listening to Black fathers talk about how much they enjoyed spending time with their sons. I loved seeing their faces light up with joy as they talked about how much fatherhood meant to them.
One of the fathers stated that spending time with his son was like therapy for him as a father because he enjoyed it so much. This was a powerful reminder of the healing power of time. I am sure the sons enjoyed the time spent together just as much as the fathers did.
The fathers will treasure the memories of playing with their sons, and teaching them valuable life lessons. The sons will treasure the memories of their fathers presence in their lives, and their father's love for them. The time the fathers are spending with their children is actually an investment.
Adults understand the value of time differently than children. We know that time is a non-renewable resource. We also notice how fast time passes by as we grow older. A lot of parents have to spend a lot of time away from their children at work to provide for their family. They are doing it because they love their children, and want to provide a better life for them.
Children have a different concept of time. When they grow older they will have a better understanding and appreciation that all of the time spent away from them at work was done out of love. But while children are growing up love is spelled: T-I-M-E.
This is why it was so wonderful to see how much these fathers valued the time they invested into their children. Every precious moment is sowing seeds of love into their child's life. They are teaching their children one of the most important life lessons we all need to learn...love is spelled: T-I-M-E. Time heals because love heals.
