I upped my social game, spending as much time as I could with friends and family. I always made plans when the kids were with their dad. It is fair to say that I had zero “alone time” coping skills. I took up drinking wine. I engaged in flirtatious conversations on various dating apps. Retail therapy soothed my soul (temporarily). All these things served as band-aids for my deeper underlying hurt. Eventually, a night alone couldn’t be helped. I would have to brave it, and it was terrible. I had to teach myself how to be alone. In the beginning, I fell apart…a lot. It was the loneliest I’ve ever felt. I had to start planning out “alone time”. A friend suggested that I start by making “alone time” plans for myself. These started out small: watch a movie, paint my nails, re-arrange a room, organize my closet. To my surprise, I regained a sense of independence from re-decorating. I worked on creating a space that was “mine” in a space that used to be shared. I didn’t have to ask someone to hang a painting, or move a chair, or to weigh in on a new colour scheme. It was oddly satisfying. Again over “time”, I began to look forward to these small bits of time by myself. Never in a million years did I think that would happen.
Finding things that made me happy focused my energy on myself in a positive way instead of staying stuck in negative thought patterns that in the end would change nothing about my situation.
The process of figuring out what things in particular made me happy became an adventure; something to look forward to, and I got excited about life again.
Feeling the feelings has always been a difficult task for me. I’ve had to learn when it’s okay to sit in the crap. I’d beat myself up for being so down that I’d try to rush past the uncomfortable and painful moments. This is not a solution. I repeat: This is a not a solution. ANNOUNCING FEW COACHING SLOTS FOR JUNE - SIGN UP NOW!
My mentor & coach Ogbo Awoke Ogbo, wrote this on one of my post yesterday, May 27, 2022. "Adenrele Onikosi, you are absolutely right! Life is too short for anyone to try to figure it all out by themselves. I hope people take advantage of your brilliant mind and skills to help them through the maze. I myself just hired a marketing coach based in San Diego, Ca for $10,000 starting June 7 for 16 weeks. Would be traveling there a couple of times within the period. I cannot figure out everything out by myself. That is folly.
Business owners remain perpetually small because they want to do it all by themselves. This particular planet was not designed that way. ??♂?
Hire me this month to help you figure things out, whether it is your career, marriage, relationship or you just simply require clarity or making a transition. Holla at me here
