Healing the division in our lives

Healing the division in our lives

Some people seem to be struggling a lot right now. I can’t get to the bottom of it. Is it post Covid fatigue? Is it burnout? Are our expectations of ourselves too high? Are we carrying trauma? Do we have enough meaning in our lives?

If you believe that we are all connected at some level, it is possible that we are feeling the heaviness of the world right now. War in several countries, recent shootings, the global elites not really serving the people the way we need and want.

I watched some of the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial recently. Hear me out, I can feel the judgement already lol. ?Using this trial as a representation of our evolvement as humans, it’s clear we have a lot of work to do. What I was struck by in reading a lot of the comments was where we are at as a global civilization. We are more divided than ever.?We take sides at the drop of a hat. Our need to be right seems more important than our need to be curious and to understand. There are no winners in a situation like this.

So what I’m wondering is how can you and I work on the division in our own lives? Where do I get reactive in my life? What part of ‘me’ is it that’s getting reactive? It’s not Sue the 51-year-old wise woman, that’s for sure. It’s usually a much younger part of me that feels misunderstood, not heard or powerless.

So one of the things I know to be true is we all need nervous system healing and regulation. I am absolutely convinced if every single one of us committed to healing our lives, we would once again live in peace as humanity.

Leadership is calling for a lot right now. How will you ensure that you are the person you want to be while leading others through one of the most important times in our collective history? What will you stand for? What will you enable others to be with your guidance and love guiding them? What are the conversations we need to have as leaders that we are not having?

A lot of people I speak to are scared of the inner journey. I’m always deeply curious about that. How can you deeply grow if you don’t understand yourself? I'm also often struck by how harsh senior executives are on themselves. As one of my dear teachers, Terry Real says ‘There is no redeeming value in harshness that loving firmness doesn’t do better’.

I’ve got to be real, it breaks my heart to see how humans speak to themselves about themselves and in turn of course how we judge others. Let’s try some kindness and love and take responsibility for our healing. As Richard Rohr says 'allow space and time for our wounds to teach us' -whose up for that?

With everything that’s happening in the world, there’s a greater need than ever to re-connect to simplicity. What does simplicity look like for you? For me it is really the small things; taking a few moments to lovingly water my plants, savouring the taste and smell of my morning coffee, feeling the warmth of the sun on my face, looking at the leaves swirling in the wind here today, taking a moment to put my hand on my heart and see how I am before connecting into the fast-paced world we are in.

So, a few things to leave you with.

·????????Where can you re-connect to the simplicity in your life?

·????????How can you speak with kindness to yourself?

·????????What are you curious about knowing about yourself and how can you get support?

·????????What conversations do you need to have more of?

I loved this post, Sue McDonnell. everything depends on us doing our own personal work...whatever that might look like for each of us. I liked your simple questions at the end, an invitation to pause, breathe and notice what is present.
