Healey’s Fair Share Tax.. vs… NH Top 1% Interest & Dividend Tax Windfall –why do the rich need to get richer while the Middle Class fall into poverty

Like a Dicken’s Tale of Two Cities the dichotomy of these societal philosophies could not be more different.

Governor Healey the champion of her Fair Share For Massachusetts “Millionaire’s Tax” looks like for calendar 2024 that it will produce an additional 2B USD in Revenue for the Commonwealth

The amount has doubled expected revenue projections and did not spur the stampede exodus from the Commonwealth ?

These additional funds have been slated to be invested into infrastructure rehabilitation long overdue, improving Mass Transit especially the MBTA that is in need of massive assistance after so many years of capital neglect.

Public schools and assistance in social programs that possess the intention of improving the quality of life for everyone

….People in places like Wellesley, Weston, Sherborn that are spending their Memorial Day Weekend at their “Cape Houses”

…..life for this 1% Group proceeds without a ripple in the water

?

In fact, my Holy Week I spent in Boston scouting about the Seaport part of town tells me that nothing impacts this social strata that are more than ample and extremely removed from regular people that I visited in places like Boston’s West Roxbury and Hyde Park

?

They know nothing about these people and construct these convenient profiles of what these individuals are all about

Little do they know that when it comes to Boston, the Working Class are the finest representation of the authentic character of the city

I grew up with these people, went to Boston Latin School with them and then got married up to New Hampshire

Yet never forgot where I came from and always stayed connected to this part of myself

?

This is what a mentally healthy individual does as these dimensions of your selfhood form the complexity of your Integrated Persona

?

One thing is for sure in the Boston Area Environment there is no pretense that there is a distinct leveling of those On Top and everyone else in various descending layers until you arrive at the dead bottom

This Class Distinction is much more refreshingly honest than the Granite State Game we play in which we ridicule Massachusetts Elitism.

?

New Hampshire …the Live Free or Die State is a place of neighborliness, communal egalitarianism where there is no snobbery or condescending patronizing behavior as in Massachusetts.

?

This is a wonderful vision of our past that is exactly a mirage of the current widening Econ-Social Class Dichotomy that is perpetuated by a small handful in the Corner Office and the State Senate in Concord

The NH Rich are getting much Richer and by 2027 will be even more wealthy as the Interest and Dividends Tax will be completed “Sunset”

It is estimated by the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute that Top 1% Percent of NH Earners would have a 12K USD windfall per year

The elimination of 369M USD in Tax Revenue with an additional 116M USD per year moving forward.

All of this Live Free or Die equality shifted down upon the backs of property taxpayers in New Hampshire

…where there is also an absence of equity in the property tax system that has created stark differences

…that result in creating of Rich and Poor Towns in this visionary most communally egalitarian of states in the Union ?

Efforts of leveling the operating environment have been met with every type of maneuvering and passive aggressive New Hampshire resistance

Being retired now I’ve have the opportunity to do what consultants do

…..research, examine to discover the premise, the solution and the ultimate successful outcome

This Cat and Mouse Game of Tax Equity has been played out for more than a generation.

While those on the Upside that benefit want this to go on forever

…..unfortunately socio-economic dynamics are constantly changing

Yet what’s baffling if not totally incredulous is the Leadership in the Corner Office and State Senate believe that this long-outdated New Hampshire Advantage Mythology possesses any element of reality

I agree – a growing New Hampshire Advantage for Top Earners with massive passive income

I also agree that the New Hampshire Advantage is funded on the backs of a Granite State Middle Class who is paying an ever increasing “Fair Share” that is lowering their standard of life and impoverishing their town and schools ?

So, on one hand we have Healey’s Massachusetts where Millionaire are paying their Fair Share to supplement investment in collectively improving the life

…and in New Hampshire we the Middle-Class Property Taxpayer ever accelerating Fair Share to supplement the wealthy (who are not paying their Fair Share) so they can build their 50M USD homes on Lake Sunapee

..while my elderly constituents sit in their cold home, malnourished and not taking their medication

…All this suffering is done in silence

…as this is the Live Free or Die State

Is this the price of all this Freedom ?

?

Hmmmm….

So, which of the two-states actual is the place of social egalitarianism ?

Massachusetts where the Commonwealth means exactly that

…..a republic that endeavors for the collective greater good

?

New Hampshire that extolls their exuberant embrace of freedom that is being funded by those that can less afford to pay for it

Still worse the widening gap of NH Haves and Haves Nots due to policy set in Concord by a handful of individuals has a trajectory that unlike Massachusetts prevents this type of future collective investment

….as these responsibilities are downshifted locally to an unequal system

This type of frontier freedom and survival of the fittest while practical socio-Darwinism is not good government

?

I’ve come to my feet at many annual meetings and made such a simple statement that I thought was a sacred ethos of our Granite State

I Can’t imagine one individual or a group benefiting at the expense of everyone else

My local town-folk all of good hardworking middle-class stock just like the people I grew up with in WR or Hyde Park followed my leadership and promptly voted down that Warrant Article

Unfortunately, we have no such leadership is Concord that can conceptualize such a social ethos

As the top of the NH economic pyramid grows wealthier on the backs of those that can least afford to support their lavish lifestyles

?

A harsh reality that needs to become the starting point of much discussion and moments of honesty for those seeking public office in Concord.

?

I’m coming to my own reality that the best thing that could occur this November is flipping the Corner Office and State Senate to infuse it with some of the concepts of the Blue Team

…where the Granite State Commonwealth works for all New Hampshire Citizen and not just the privileged at the top

?

Maybe it’s time to revisit our understanding of Freedom and what is the definition of Social Fair Share Responsibility

?

Our Current Concord Leadership possesses no such vision
