GPAHE Brings You the Latest News in Far-Right Hate and Extremism

??? The New York Times: Antisemitic and Anti-Muslim Hate Speech Surges Across the Internet

“On fringe platforms like 4chan, Gab and BitChute, antisemitic and Islamophobic content rose nearly 500 percent in the 48 hours after Oct. 7, according to the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, a nonprofit that tracks hate speech and extremism.”

??GPAHE’s take: Jewish and Muslim communities around the world are growing targets for antisemitism and anti-Muslim hate and violence, both online and off. Since the Hamas attack, our work has documented the stark increase in hate on fringe social media platforms where several mass shooters have found a home. There is no question that online hate is connected to an increase in hate crimes against both Jewish and Muslim communities, and is now impacting other communities. Social media companies are derelict in their responsibility to their users and our society.

??? Common Dreams: Warnings Grow That US Media Again Failing to Accurately Cover Trump's Fascist Threat

“Our country is facing an authoritarian threat from far-right extremists and Christian Nationalists in a new, unique, and frightening way," said GPAHE co-founder Wendy Via. "Voters, political figures, and the media must be on alert that Project 2025 is an authoritarian roadmap to dismantling a thriving, inclusive democracy for all.”

??GPAHE’s take: We recently published an in-depth analysis on Project 2025, a far-right playbook for American authoritarianism, that’s led by the Heritage Foundation and supported by more than 80 organizations, many known for their Christian Nationalist, anti-LGBTQ+, anti-immigrant, climate denialism, or otherwise extremist agendas. Project 2025 does not reflect the values of the American people, and our plea to political leaders and to the media is to accurately describe it as a dangerous and unconstitutional attempt to move the U.S. towards authoritarianism guided by Christian Nationalism.

??? The Washington Post: Europe Grapples with the Ascendant Far Right — and its Own Identity

“The gathering menace of Europe’s ascendant far-right nationalists — hostile to minorities, migrants, women’s rights, LGBTQ+ communities, climate science and, often, pluralist democracy itself — is prompting mainstream leaders to make decisions that previously would have been unlikely or unthinkable.”

??GPAHE’s take: The findings from our Country Extremist Reports show that across Europe far-right extremists are influencing mainstream politics. It’s disturbing to see how much anti-LGBTQ+, racist and anti-immigrant hate have infected mainstream politics in countries like Italy, France, Portugal, Bulgaria, and more. It’s now common for leaders of major political parties to spread the same hateful messages as the hardcore far-right groups. And of course the same applies here in the United States.

??? CNN: Meta is Now Allowing 2020 Election Denialism in Political Ads

“Meta will allow political ads on its platforms to question the outcome of the 2020 US presidential election, part of a rollback in election-related content moderation among major social media platforms over the past year ahead of the 2024 US presidential contest.”

??GPAHE’s take: This decision will allow Meta to continue to profit off election denialism lies and advertisements filled with disinformation, undermining our democracy and possibly leading to more violence. GPAHE has long warned of the dangers of social media allowing political figures and their cronies to use their platforms to polarize democracies. You can read more in our report Democracies Under Threat and see how we’ve formed a Global Alliance, with organizations from every continent, to fight this global threat.

??? Politico: Mike Johnson Is a Board Member of a Christian Publishing House that Called ‘Monkeypox’ a Penalty for Being Gay

“It’s certainly another troubling sign of how extreme Johnson’s views may be, that he would sit on a board and wouldn’t have a problem with them putting out ideas like this.”

??GPAHE’s take: Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s connection with rabidly anti-LGBTQ+ organizations is shameful. Christian Nationalism has no place in our democracy, yet through elected leaders like Speaker Johnson and the far-right’s authoritarian plan Project 2025, we are facing the threat of being forced to live in a country that would impose a Christian Nationalist agenda on all Americans, including draconian and reactionary measures when it comes to sexual health and reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ equality, racial equity, public education, and more.
