Headline: iDEP Milestone- 694 Projects loaded as System Enhancements Continue

The implementation of the Infrastructure Delivery Platform (iDEP) at the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID) is on track, as the technical team reveal that approximately 694 infrastructure projects have been loaded on the system.

Infrastructure News spoke with the technical team involved in the iDEP rollout, including Director Infrastructure Research Planning Systems (IRPS), Lerato Mahloane, Systems Specialist, Jonathan Morulane and the Director, Information Communication Technology (ICT) Themba Koka to brief us on the work done thus far. The team has been on the ground to ensure the effective implementation and Go-Live of the IDEP system, providing adequate user support in terms of training, capacity building and technical support to all DID Project Managers across the Branches.

According to Lerato, the iDEP system is fully operational, with continuous enhancements being implemented based on user feedback and stakeholder needs, “The focus is now on refining the system to ensure it meets all functional needs, particularly regarding reporting and dashboard customisation. With an approximate number of 694 infrastructure projects loaded into the iDEP system, the IRPS team is currently engaged in a data clean-up process to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the information”.

Lerato added that the technical training sessions are ongoing to equip the IRPS and ICT teams with the necessary skills to manage the system effectively. These sessions also ensure that technical support is available to all users, allowing them to understand the system from a technical perspective and handle any emerging requirements as the system evolves.

Themba explained that iDEP system, which includes the Infrastructure Project Risk Management and Portfolio of Evidence systems, has been customised in collaboration with eGov as it leads on issues of technology and systems in the Province. This customisation ensures that the system is fit for DID’s purpose, providing reporting capabilities tailored to our Department’s infrastructure projects that will ensure that there is accurate, relevant and real time data on the performance of the respective infrastructure projects that the Department is responsible for implementation of behalf of the Client Departments. He said, “The Directorate, ICT has been instrumental in ensuring that the iDEP system is correctly hosted, licensed and accessible to all necessary personnel users and stakeholders. The ICT team has worked diligently to ensure that the system complies with all technical and security requirements, safeguarding the system’s integrity and ensuring its smooth operation. We are also working on finalising dashboards that will allow for secure, profile-based access to the system’s reporting features”.

As ongoing enhancements are made in the iDEP system based on feedback from various stakeholders. Continuous training sessions are being held to focus on the latest system improvements, including technical support for those needing additional assistance.

The IDEP system was introduced by MEC Jacob Mamabolo to ensure our projects comply with all stages as stipulated by the Infrastructure Delivery Management System. The iDEP is a long-term initiative aimed at enhancing traditional project delivery methods through innovative technology and distributing project information and documents, ensuring real-time and reliable data throughout the project lifecycle.
