The headless chicken : the fear of missing out

The best business people say NO more often.

Well perhaps not NO, but rather, WHEN.

Especially now when covid has hit our businesses hard!

And we are all scrambling to recover/review our businesses & what direction to take.

I have fallen into this so-called fatal rookie trap of not being able to say NO, when new & exciting opportunites came along.

We get excited, we panic at missing out & all  sense goes out the window.

Guilty as charged ~ my hand goes up!

Of course I did all the good things the experts taught us……..

(a)   a feasibility study of the opportunity & tested market readiness

(b)   estimated time & capital expenditure required

And went for it………

 BUT, I forgot/failed to…….

(a)   Remember that I am but one, & totally under-estimated the time I was going to rob from my already existing venture & the capacity to be able to accommodate it all

The inevitable happened - I ran out of hours in a day, & days in the week.

Eventually health & performance deteriorated, as I was running around ike a chicken without out a head.

And the whole business began to to tumble down & quickly go backwards.

Result …… breakdown!

I have learnt the lesson the hard way & had to unbundle the add-ons & get back to focusing on the core business.

Don’t fall into the same trap!

Take a deep breath.

Times are not normal ~ nor is business right now!

Rather err on the side of caution before rushing in (& do what I say, not what I do ??)
