Heading To GHC 2019: Get To Know Manisha Sule, Technology Leader - Machine Learning

Get ready Grace Hopper Celebration 2019 attendees, I have another woman in tech you need to know! GHC is an incredible opportunity to connect with other women in tech - it is after all the world’s largest gathering of women technologists! But with 25,000 attendees descending on the Orange County convention center in Orlando, Florida for this year’s event, making vital career connections can be a challenge for some people. So I’m stepping in to help out by highlighting a few of the women in tech speaking at this year’s event – along with their tips on how to get the most out of GHC 2019

In this third women in tech profile, let me introduce you to: Manisha Sule, Technology Leader - Machine Learning at Capital One. Manisha will be participating in a mentoring session advising on opportunities in the fields of Data Analytics and Data Science on October 2.

JKH: What were you studying / working at before you started your tech career?

Manisha: Studying Computer Science before started my tech career. I was awed by computer programming from my high school years and was always firm on pursuing a career in technology.

JKH: What is the one piece of technology you wish you had invented?

Manisha: Predicting children’s behavior!! From toddler to teen tantrums, parenting could use some help from technology here.

JKH: What is the innovation you wish someone would create/you need in your life right now?

Manisha: Household devices to help in mundane household chores like cooking, cleaning, laundry etc.

JKH: Your top suggestion for making the most out of GHC 2019?

Manisha: Network, network, network. GHC is brimming with great talent andgreat leaders from various career levels. This is a great opportunity to build a network which you could tap into for job opportunities, hiring or plain mentoring advice to navigate career challenges.

JKH: I endorse your answer and couldn't agree more!

JKH: What's the best way to connect with you at GHC 2019?

Manisha: Twitter: @ tweetDataS // LinkedIn : https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/manisha-sule

JKH: What’s one insight that you would want audiences to take away from your mentoring session?

Manisha: One insight I would like my audience to take away is : “Follow your passion and don’t shy away from challenges, especially if you are starting in a new field or new technology. Do your research on the opportunities in the field and create a concrete plan on how you would conquer the learning curve.”

JKH: Soft skills are in demand in tech careers. What is your guidance on developing these essential workplace skills?

Manisha: Public speaking is extremely helpful in tech career. Not everyone is born with great oratory skills, but these can be built with time and practice. Being able to communicate your message clearly helps in numerous ways. Not only is this helpful while communicating with your non-technical stakeholders but also helps in displaying your technical prowess to the wider tech audience. Personally for me, the ToastMasters club helped immensely. It prepared me to not only craft well structured speeches but also gave me the confidence to get up and speak impromptu in front of an audience, without prior preparation.

JKH: What is one non-technical skill that you never thought you’d use in your tech career - and have leveraged repeatedly?

Manisha: Time management and organization ; this is extremely critical in a tech career, especially as you climb the ladder and lead larger teams.

My career thrives on collaboration, so I’m thrilled to partner once again with Capital One at GHC.
