Located on a stunning 136 acre property in Healesville (60 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD) with the natural beauty of neighbouring Yarra Valley on the doorstep, Worawa is proudly owned and governed by Aboriginal people and celebrates Aboriginal values and decision making processes. This leadership opportunity requires the incumbent to embrace the right to Aboriginal self-determination and “The Worawa Way”, a guiding philosophy grounded in Aboriginal Ways of Knowing, Doing and Being. It promotes the Aboriginal values of Relationship, Responsibility, Respect and Rigour and informs all aspects of College operations. Along with the core academic program, emphasis is placed on threading culture through the curriculum to nurture and celebrate cultural identity as a crucial aspect of self-esteem and wellbeing. The young women who pass through Worawa become strong and independent people, confident and ready to take their place in the world.
Reporting to the Deputy Principal, the Head of Student Wellbeing plays a central role in the life of the students. The position is responsible for building and leading a Wellbeing team that proactively shapes and drives the direction and management of students’ immersive residential experience at Worawa. Integral to that is the importance of creating an environment/community that supports students to flourish and bring them to their full potential. The role is non-teaching therefore experience in a school setting is not a prerequisite, however it will require the capacity to design and facilitate a life skills/wellbeing curriculum tailored to the students’ context.
