Head of Pipeline - VFX - VFX Film & Episodic - North America / Remote
RLT is seeking a Head of Pipeline for the VFX arm of a boutique creative studio headquartered in NYC. For this position you can work anywhere within the US and Canada - no need to relocate now, or ever!? This facility has been 100% cloud based since 2018, (pre-pandemic), and has paved the way for remote working on the VFX pipeline. This position provides long term stability with growth opportunity. JOB SUMMARY
The Head of Pipeline will have overall responsibility for identifying and defining the core pipeline and workflow requirements for large or complex shows. They will be responsible for designing technical solutions to the specific and general needs of those shows in collaboration with global supervisors, senior production staff and lead developers in R&D. The Head of Pipeline is responsible for leading a team charged with the development, deployment, and support of the Studio Pipeline, maximizing the return on investment in any Pipeline enhancements, while minimizing show risk and waste. The Head of Pipeline must have a solid understanding of cloud computing and technology systems, as well as experience designing and transferring applications to the cloud. They will be a strong collaborator with our client’s IT team to resolve cross-department technical problems and diagnose root causes of incidents, as well as acting as a tier 3 escalation point for production incidents.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Leads a team of Department TDs and Pipeline Developers responsible for deploying, configuring, and supporting the existing Pipeline.
● Design, develop, test, and maintain VFX production pipeline custom software tools and components
● Acts as an escalation point for Supervisors and Production Management to resolve pipeline and work-flow issues.
● Work with the Pipeline Developers, Technical Directors, CG Supervisors, and other leads/supervisors to help architect solutions (tools and workflow) for pipeline enhancements and fixes
● Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the team

REQUIREMENTS
● 7+ of experience in feature film on the post-production side

● 5+ years of experience in a VFX pipeline role or related role
● Production experience with Maya, Houdini and Nuke, familiarity with relevant APIs
● Proficiency in Python.
● Comfortable writing tools or automation in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash, Powershell)
● Experience managing software, pipeline, and/or technology teams.
● Experience working on both Windows and Linux operating systems
● Excellent organizational and time management skills, strong attention to detail
● Prior experience working with and developing on with Ftrack or other Production & Asset Management Systems.
● Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
● Must be a proven and effective leader with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor.
