The Head on Crash
Sometimes you see it out of the corner
of your eye.
Moments before impact.
and you brace
for
impact.
Rigidity in all limbs.
Other times there is a close call.
Just missed.
Bless God.
Not my time.
Then there is now.
A different feeling.
Totally calm.
No storm at all.
Nothing for Dorothy and Toto to run from.
Nothing manifest.
Totally avoidable.
But I create it.
The most massive head on
ever.
I bring it into being.
Not cause you need it.
Or the world needs it.
Or that it has to happen now.
Only that it could happen now.
So why not?
And I feel the calmness take over.
I do not brace for impact.
In the total absence of any fear.
I watch what was my previous ways and outcome:
the frozen broken man, now be superceded by
an acrobat riding the wave
with a huge smile.
Doing three somersaults and a twist under the windshield that is shattered.
Just missing razor shards, but I had plenty of room.
Why wasn't I afraid?
Even worse...
Why do I want to do it again?
Oh my God...
What am I training for?
I can't quite make out exactly who all these skills sets build.
Gawd that looks painful.
Best.
