Iraqi Boy Wounded by ISIS Sniper Shares His Story?
We want to share the story of?Mohammed, an Iraqi boy who was critically wounded when an ISIS sniper shot him in the back while he was grocery shopping for his family.
The sniper’s bullet lodged in the teen’s spine, causing paralysis and leaving the boy and his family in a desperate medical crisis.?
Not long after the attack, we received a call from a contact in the area who made us aware of Mohammed’s situation and asked if All Things Possible Ministries could help.
The logistics were challenging, but ATP persevered and got Mohammed the care he needed to start his long, arduous road to recovery. Over the last several years, ATP supporters helped provide long-term medical care and rehabilitation for Mohammed so that he could eventually regain the ability to walk.?
Recently, we asked Mohammed to share a bit about his recovery journey.?Here is what he said:?
In December of 2016 when I was seriously injured by an ISIS sniper who shot me in the back, my life changed significantly.?I felt that I was destined to live in suffering and darkness. In Mosul, there was a lack of proper medical care because ISIS had used the hospital as their headquarters.
The hospital was heavily damaged when they were finally forced out of the city. Making matters worse, my family was unable to afford my medical expenses.?I fell into despair. I had no hope and felt like I was dying every day. Recalling the challenges of those dark days is hard for me as they were filled with great suffering.
I felt lost, but I still had some hope. I wondered if there was anyone willing to take my hand and guide me, anyone who could bring me just a glimmer of hope that I could one day be happy again. My family searched in vain.
They thought maybe there was an NGO out there interested in helping their injured son. The search was futile, until one day we found out that ATP was willing to help. Finally, someone was there to reach out their hand and pull me from this grim darkness.
The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them. —?Isaiah 9:2
After I met the team from All Things Possible Ministries, I felt as if my life had changed!?The support they showed me was incredible. Victor Marx and ATP promised to stand with me and my family, and they did! People in the U.S. learned about my case, and they began praying for me. This prayer was an incredible source of support.?
I was taken to a hospital in Erbil for excellent medical care. The treatments took a full year, and ATP covered my expenses. They provided a rental house and paid for my medical treatments and lots of physical therapy.?
As I was recovering another remarkable thing happened. I became famous in my community! My neighbors even called me a hero!?

As my recovery progressed, ATP gave me a vehicle so I could work as a taxi driver and cover my own expenses while also supporting my family.?
It’s hard to put into words the gratitude I feel for the love and care ATP supporters have shown me. I ask that you?please remember the people of Iraq. There are others like me who still need help. Follow God, and please pray for ATP team members as they travel to my country to do this important humanitarian work. Thank you for supporting me and my family!
Inspirational Insight
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and prayer warriors, we have been blessed to be able to shepherd Mohammed through his darkest moments and into the light.?He is now a thriving young man who is able to help provide financially for his family?despite the injuries he’s sustained.?
Mohammed’s story of delivery from darkness to light reminds us of Psalm 40 as David sings:
I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God;??
Many will see and fear and will trust in the Lord. —?Psalm 40:1-3
