If he had another breath.

As a black woman leading AmPac, the last week has been gut-wrenching in our family as I sought to make sense out of the senseless with my young adult children - my two sons and two daughters. As I watched the services for Mr. George Floyd I thought about AmPac’s mission, vision, and core values and wondered if he had another breath - could the starting over he was seeking in MN have been entrepreneurship. 

He drove trucks. If he had another breath, could he have started a trucking business and could he have been a recipient of an SBA loan because, in spite of his background, the microloan program welcomes individuals to start over and get a second chance. I could not help but to think, in his effort to start over in moving to MN, what if he had another breath, could his experience as a security guard, known as a gentle giant, and so loving to customers, have led him to start a security company. 

I joined my daughter in a peaceful protest this week near her university and I was moved by so many of the signs I read. I walked near a teacher and her sign said, “I will never understand, but I will stand.” I am standing for the potential that lies in us to make a difference - everyone needs a chance, even a second chance, to take their next breath.
