The Homeless Veterans of Sacramento

He became We

This is about Greg, a sales manager at Talus Pay, who received a call from a Veterans Chamber of Commerce in Dallas. He had heard me say a million times how I could get a Veteran off of the street in one day.?I understand that some people may have questions and concerns about how we, America's Homeless Veterans as an organization can make a significant impact in reducing homelessness among veterans, but in one day?

Regarding the skepticism and disbelief some of you may have, it's understandable. However, I want to emphasize that we have developed a strong network of resources and partnerships that enable us to respond rapidly to the needs of homeless veterans.

One day, while driving in the AHVets' Hummer, the MASHV (Mobile Assistance Serving Homeless Veterans), Greg received a call. On the other end was a representative from the Veterans Chamber of Commerce in Dallas. They had come across a homeless veteran, a woman in need, and had noticed the AHVets logo on the vehicle he was driving. They reached out to him for assistance.

Greg later said, “The weight of responsibility fell upon me as Randall's words echoed in my mind. I knew that I had to take immediate action. I quickly gathered all the necessary information, noting down her name, location, and description. I understood that the decisions I made in the next few hours would have a profound impact on this woman's life.” "Without hesitation, I contacted one of the dedicated staff members at AHVets who specialized in handling such cases. Together, we made two crucial phone calls within the span of two hours. The goal was clear: to get this homeless veteran the immediate help she desperately needed."

Through our network and connections, AHVets swiftly coordinated with a local church charity. They acted swiftly, picking her up and bringing her to the nearest Veteran Service Officer. That day marked the beginning of a journey to provide the much-needed help, treatment, and support that this lady veteran deserved.

Later, as Greg recounted this story to a fellow employee on a Zoom call, my heart swelled with pride and admiration for him, our organization, and the entire team involved in making a difference. I can’t but help but emphasize that Greg, ultimately held the responsibility for that woman's life from the moment he became involved and made that life-saving call. When I said that, the expression on his face began to change, conveying a mix of emotions—ownership, a sense of moral obligation, relief, and accomplishment all rolled into one.

In that moment, my story became his to cherish and celebrate through his own experience. It wasn't just about the organization anymore; it was about a personal connection, a shared journey, and a deep understanding of the profound impact he could have on someone's life. From that day forward, he carries the glory of that experience, knowing that his actions, and the actions of every individual in our organization, mattered greatly. It fuels a sense of purpose, pushing him to continue making a difference in the lives of homeless veterans. His story, shared through his perspective, becomes a powerful motivator, reminding everyone of the importance of compassion, dedication, and the transformative power of lending a helping hand. Thank You Greg!
