HDR doesn't mean Laser. And Laser doesn't mean HDR.
We've been supporting and sponsoring a great event earlier this week arranged by our friends of Ymagis / CinemaNext / Eclair in Berlin at the wonderful "Eiszeit"-Kino in Kreuzberg alongside the Berlin Film Festival "Berlinale" to feature and demo their EclairColor process. I've rarely attended an event with a more interested audience, asking exactly the right questions at the right time. But what's still kind of shocking is that a lot of people believe that HDR in a cinema will only be possible with a laser light source projector - which by all means is completely wrong. Yes, of course, a LIP should and will - if done right...and ours will of course... - support HDR, but there are ways to significantly increase image quality in cinemas today, even with existing (!) Sony R500-projection systems out in the field.

8 年We should also consider ANSI contrast as a fundamental portion of making good, contrasty images...
Whether HDR will be possible with laser, will depend on the definition of HDR in cinema/projection. No such spec/standard exists today. Independent of that, there are many other benefits of laser based projection (higher brightness, improved TCO,... ) that are already tangible today.
