HDMI AOC Quick On-site judgement Suggestions
In the last news, we share 'what we can do when AOC not work ', but it is not detailed enough. So here we rewrote, together with the schematics which help to understand. This article is depending on Smartavlink 10 years of AOC experiences. Hope can help you know more about it.
AOC has 4 fiber + 7 copper inside. According to the construction, once you found any issue during installation& application, the following steps used to help you make the judgement to make sure this cable is defective or not:
1. This is Active Optical cable, so, please make sure the direction is correct, it is uni-direction. Source side is used for connecting DVD/PC, Display side is used to connecting TV/Projector
2. This cable is active optical cable, so make sure the Source side HDMI Pin can provide 5V voltage from Pin 18, this power is used to drive the chipset working
3. Before installation, the user pre-test the cable works at their application, then install. Since there may be some compatibility issues due to different HDMI Source and display. Each HDMI source have different DDC raising time and TMDS signal output, so pre-test the cable compatible with real installation is necessary before installation.
4. If the above 3 steps no problem, after installation, the cable does not work. Please check both source and display device, if they use an additional extension cable because this should bring more compatibility issue
5. If step 4 not helpful on the shoot the problem, change a copper HDMI Cable to connect the HDMI source and display, to reverify the trouble belong to cable or device itself.
6.If found step 5 found belong to the compatibility issue, exchange the HDMI AOC to other HDMI extender, for temporary solution. And take back the cable to another application.
7. After installation, if above 6 steps can not find any issue, then check the HDMI cable pin broken or not, we have experience some of the installer plug the connector into the socket tough, and cause pin transformed and broken, also have chance to broken the source or device side HDMI socket, this need check carefully
8. After installation, if above 7 steps not helpful, please check if the cable broken, because of rough installation cause this cable mechanical broken, including copper wire, broken, and fiber optical broken
9. When end-user install this cable, everything works fine, but few hours or weeks failed, this need engineer to study on-site, because we have learned from some of the other customers, that some HDMI device has electrical spike, this AOC cable shell metal, and ground wire is connected to the shell, which has the capability to join the Source & Display by this cable, which will destroy the source.
10. If the cable cause failure after weeks or months, the cable issue may be caused by the fiber optical connection, or VCSEL failed, need to exchange a new PCBA on-site.
The cable is hybrid construction: Copper+4 Fiber, Copper is used for lower speed signal, and fiber used for TMDS, fiber use alignment and glue, copper is soldering. Sample picture as below :
