HCSO Celebrates National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

April 9-15 is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. It’s held annually during the second week of April to honor public safety telecommunicators for their commitment, service, and sacrifice.?

Brad Herron is the Director of Dispatch 911 and Records. He’s served with teamHCSO for over 30 years! As the HCSO Communications Center's leader, he understands each dispatcher's valuable role.?

“Our dispatchers play a crucial role in the lives of millions throughout Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “They are selfless, and they devote each day to meeting the needs of every caller no matter the scenario. We have one of the?busiest communications centers in the country, and it takes a special calling to serve in that capacity. I’m extremely grateful for each person on our team.”?

Dispatchers work in 12-hour shifts, handling numerous calls throughout Hillsborough County. In a typical year, the Bureau staff answers approximately 1.6 million telephone calls from the public and other agencies, of which approximately 540,000 are received via 911.?
