Despite being the shortest month, February was action-packed for the HCLTech Trends and Insights team.??

We helped launch the HCLTech Trends 2024 report and attended Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the pinnacle event for the connectivity ecosystem.?

At this event, we spoke to a variety of leaders from HCLTech about how to realize the opportunities of 5G and the important role of GenAI in transforming the telecommunications industry.?

In addition, we produced a range of content focused on cloud, including the cloud skills shortage and why cloud repatriation represents a move away from innovation, and hosted an excellent discussion with the Head of Technology – Store Team at Coles Group on the future of retail.?

5G and GenAI – the future of telecommunications?

Kalyan Kumar, Global CTO at HCLTech and CPO at HCLSoftware, reflected on the next era of connectivity with 5G and the importance of network slicing at MWC.?

He believes that while 5G has taken off, “The key to a successful and scaled rollout relies on the network supporting 5G.”?

In addition, Kumar pointed to network slicing, a transformative technology that enables network operators to slice a single physical 5G network into multiple virtual networks, each customized for specific use cases or industries, as key to the future of 5G.??

Vijay Guntur, President of Engineering and R&D Services at HCLTech, explained that to fully realize the potential of 5G, telecom service providers need to embrace AI and innovation ecosystems made up of mobile operators, OEMs, systems integrators, hyperscalers and startups.?

He referred to several 5G use cases and the landmark managed services partnership between HCLTech and Verizon as examples of how 5G and related services can be rolled out at scale.?
