HBAS Hosts DELAC for District

Huntington Beach Adult School hosted the DELAC - District English Learner Advisory Committee meeting for the second time this year on Thursday, May 2nd. Approximately 30 parents/HBAS students were in attendance, and there were 3 students there to present who have been hired in this past year to work for HBAS (Najwa Riachi, originally from Lebanon; Renata Teixeira, originally from Brazil; and Isamar Chang, originally from Mexico). Each student/employee was college educated in their home countries and have done the hard work of improving their English to better survive and thrive in the United States. Each has advanced enough with their English to be of valuable service to HBAS, assisting with orientation and assessment sessions, helping students/instructors in classrooms, and following up with students regarding attendance and other notices.

All parents/HBAS students who attended this meeting received valuable information regarding the plan for how funds will be allocated regarding English learner services at their school (discussion of Consolidated App and LCAP), and they also were told about the efforts the school district has been making to offer a variety of healthy and culturally relevant food choices available at the high schools. HBAS appreciates the opportunity to bring this valuable information to its students, one more valuable wrap around service it is proud to be a part of. Evidently HBUHSD - Huntington Beach Union High School District appreciates the connection as well; all DELAC meetings for 2024-25 are scheduled to be hosted by HBAS.
