Hazel McCallion Line takes shape

A key component in the future Hazel McCallion Line is coming into focus. The large concrete structures present on Highway 403 near Square One are the building blocks for a guideway that will allow trains to run overtop the busy highway below.??

The guideway stretches over the highway, connecting to sections of Rathburn Road and Central View Drive as part of the 18-kilometre, 19 stop line weaving through Mississauga and Brampton.??

Guideways are an incredible feat of engineering, requiring a plethora of legwork and logistics before construction can even begin. From geological assessment to community coordination, learn more about how these impressive structures take shape and better connect communities.??

Putting the work in network?

Planning and logistics are some of the most critical factors in building transit. From storing equipment and materials to maintaining a constant flow of resources to work sites, logistics hubs play a vital role in streamlining construction.?

By creating a connected network of work sites, logistics hubs can better support large scale projects like GO Expansion. These hubs are strategically located on land owned or licensed by Metrolinx, also giving them direct access to the GO Rail network, reducing road congestion and keeping things greener during work.??

Innovative tunneling technology?

What’s bigger than a brachiosaurus, has a pineapple shaped head and is a key piece of technology in building the Ontario Line subway? It’s a roadheader! These mighty rock-cutting machines are used across the globe in road and rail projects to accurately excavate tunnels.?

How do they work? The pineapple-shaped cutting head is attached to an arm that can move side to side or up and down, and as material is excavated, it falls onto a built-in conveyer shuttling all that waste to the back.?

Transformative year in transit?

With 2025 now well underway, we move forward building on the milestones and triumphs of the year that was. From the introduction of PRESTO in Apple and Google Wallet and the One Fare system, we’ve made it easier and more affordable for you to get around the region.?

We also made significant strides in our ongoing projects as well, completing all station stops along the Finch West LRT, digging up a treasure trove of artifacts in Toronto’s Union Station and so much more. You can check out some of our top highlights, or explore by region below:?

This looks like the bridge over the 403 at Square One Shopping Centre, Hurontario would be on the right.

Updates on the Crosstown? Will it open in 25? Does any one feel these updates are credible until you finish a major project that is years behind with no transparency as to when it will be finished?
