Hazardous Chemicals Tier II Reporting... March 1st
If your company has certain hazardous chemicals, forms need to be filled out to report your chemical inventory information to your local fire departments, emergency planning committees and your state emergency response commissions. The report is a Tier II Hazardous Chemical Inventory Report and as you now know, the deadline is March 1st!
After all, it IS your corporate responsibility...
The Tier II Report includes the chemical hazard types, storage volumes, and where those chemicals are located. The information could be life-saving to firefighters and hazmat technicians. They will come prepared with the necessary protective gear and spill response equipment. The safer they are the better job they can do to lessen the damage done to your facility.
Is a Tier II Report Necessary for Your Company?
If your company stores hazardous chemicals above the minimum thresholds set by the EPA, you need to fill out the report. Are there hazardous chemicals at your facility that require you to have a Safety Data Sheet under OSHA's standards?
The Thresholds
The extremely hazardous substances reporting threshold = 500 pounds or the threshold planning quantity whichever is lower. Some reporting thresholds are as low as 10 pounds. For other hazardous chemicals for which facilities are required to have or prepare a Safety Data Sheet, the minimum reporting threshold is 10,000 pounds.
