Blast at Port of Barcelona kills one person, injures three

An explosion at the Port of Barcelona killed one person and left another seriously injured on 21 January, Spanish emergency services have said. The incident in the northeastern Catalonia region occurred during maintenance at the port’s “Energy Wharf” where natural gas, petroleum, and chemicals are loaded onto ships.

Fire at one of the world’s largest battery storage facilities forces evacuations

A fire erupted at a US battery storage facility – one of the largest in the world – on 16 January and burned for several days in northern California. The incident at Vistra Corp.’s 3000-megawatt facility in Moss Landing, around 75 miles (122km) south of San Francisco, forced evacuations for around 1,700 people.

Explosion injures 32 at chemical recycling plant in Malaysia

An explosion at a chemical recycling facility injured 32 people on 21 January. The incident happened in the city of Klang on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The majority of those injured in the incident were locals who were in the vicinity of the plant at the time of the blast.
