UK to issue hundreds of new North Sea oil and gas licences

Hundreds of new oil and gas licenses will be granted in the UK, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak confirmed on 31 July. The Government and the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA) have announced a joint commitment to undertake future licensing rounds, which will continue to be subject to a climate compatibility test.

Grain silo blast kills eight in Brazil, one person missing

A grain silo explosion at an agricultural plant in southern Brazil killed eight people and left a dozen more injured on 27 July. The incident happened a facility owned by C.Vale, an agricultural co-operative, in the town of Palotina in Paraná state.

Food processor fined $650,000 for chemical accident prevention violations

Inspections at US mines in June found 242 violations at 18 mines, many with history of safety issues

The US Department of Labor’s Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) announced the results of its latest series of impact inspections. The agency began impact inspections after the deaths of 29 miners in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch mine in April 2010, one of the deadliest in U.S. history. In its latest inspections in June, the MSHA issued 242 violations at 18 mines in 12 states.
