Everything we think and do is a result of deep-rooted habits engraved into our minds through several repeated acts. Those habits that are an integral part of each one personality, are either helping to develop and move forward in life or vice versa.
Herein some habits that I see so useful classified into two main categories: (1) Habits that pertain to the development of the character and personality, (2) Habits that can be classifies as a routine. At this article, we will explore the first category, Developing Character habits:
1. Positive thinking: Positive thinking is one of the proven ways to achievement of your goals. When we think positively, good things happen, good ideas develop, and good people are met. Surround yourself with positive people who help you keep positive and motivated. Ignore negative people who doubt your ability to achieve your goals and harbor negative thinking. It is hard to stay positive all the time, as it is sometimes our natural tendency to think negatively about things. So, you have to train yourself on the habit of thinking and acting positively. I recommend following a page or application that send you a daily motivational quotes as they are simply lead to a calmer state of mind and reduce stress and worries.
2. Leave a strong first impression: remind yourself of the power of the first impression. Remind yourself of the famous quote “you will never find a second chance for the first impression”. Most people form an idea about you and decide whether to trust and/or like you within the first few minutes of meeting you, and spend the rest of the discussion justifying their initial judgment. This might seem unfair, but we should accept it as one of life facts. First impression is mainly connected with the way you dress and your body language. Your posture, way of handshaking, your tone when talking, keeping an eye contact, listening with interest, your arms that are uncrossed, and your smile are all keys for the good first impression that lasts long.
3. Be Grateful: develop the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you. Successful people know their families, mentors, colleagues, and friends all play a huge role in their success. They recognize others for the wonderful things they’ve done for them. They truly appreciate even the small and natural things in their lives such as good weather, having access to strong internet connectivity, meeting kind people, having good health, etc. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. Grateful people are happier and more successful and know how to slow down sometimes to appreciate what they already have.
4. Never Stop learning: it is important to continually increase your knowledge and self-awareness. Successful people embrace constant development. Whenever there is an opportunity, they fill it with self-education and/or gaining new information. Whenever possible fill your spare time with acquiring a new skill, enhancing an existing one, knowing more about your business and/or the world around you. Fortunately, it is easy to implement this once you have the will to do so. There are a numerous number of online courses and/or sources for wonderful information in the available audiobooks, reputable websites such as LinkedIn, YouTube and TED. It is so important to develop this habit as successful people are knowledgeable.
5. Be Self-Disciplined: Successful people are usually self-disciplined because they do realize that self-discipline guarantees their successful implementation of all other good habits. It is your company for success in every area of your career and personal life. Self-discipline means self-control, which is a sign of inner strength and control of yourself, your actions and/reactions, and your response to emotions as well. Self-discipline enables you to withstand temptations that waste your time and distract you. It gives you the power to stick to your decisions and relentlessly proceed till achieving your goals.
Your habits had been formed during your early years of your life, from the time you were an infant, and they are still developing, mostly accidentally. It is time now to start taking control over the shaping of your character and personality, that will affect your future. By making the right decision, of developing some of the habits that are possessed by other successful people, the most probably you will enjoy similar success as well.
Good habits developed now will last a lifetime!
