Here we are again - Christmas is around the corner.??
For some, it may be a magical time filled with family, joy, and fun, for others this may be a time of year that is filled with just…?so... much... food...??
Mince pies, flowing drinks, endless servings—it's enough to make anyone feel a little overwhelmed. But here’s the good news—you’re in control.
Christmas doesn’t have to be different from any other day?unless you choose to make it so.
The key to navigating festive feasts and indulgent gatherings lies in being mindful of your needs, your values, and how you show love to yourself.??
Here’s how you could approach the holidays with self-awareness...
?
?? Treat Christmas Like Any Other Day
Ask yourself this simple question—if you generally wouldn’t do or eat something on a random Wednesday, why would you do it now just because it’s December 25th?
For example...
If you don’t eat meat throughout the year, there’s no reason to change your values because a turkey appears in front of you. ??
If you avoid overeating or piling on second servings on most days, why start now just because there’s extra food on the table?
?Stay true to who you are?every single day, not just the other 364 days of the year.
?
? For When Temptation Strikes…
If you’re someone who wrestles with overindulgence or struggles to say no to a third (or fourth ??) serving, here’s what you can do to stay on track during the festive season:
?
Pause and Check-In ??♀?
Before filling your plate again, ask yourself where you are on the hunger scale. Are you still hungry or just eating because it’s there? How would you feel if you ate more than you need to? Is that the feeling you are looking to avoid or to feel?
?
Pay Attention to YOU ?
What others put on their plates or what choices they make doesn’t have to impact you. You’re making healthier choices for?you.
?
Feed Your Body with Love ??
Think of every bite as nourishment. Choose what your body?needs?instead of what your eyes crave.
?
Find Your "No" ?
It can feel hard in social settings, but saying “no, thank you” when you’re satisfied is an act of strength. Practice it with grace and confidence.
?
?? Mindful Eating Tips for the Season
Take a deep breath and remember these ideas so you can approach your meals with peace and joy this holiday season.
???Slow down:?Savour each bite and enjoy the flavours—no need to rush!
????Stay hydrated:?Sometimes thirst feels like hunger. Grab a glass of water first.
????Be kind to yourself:?If you overindulge, show yourself love. One meal doesn’t define you.
?
? A Final Thought?
“Guilt has no place when it comes to eating”?
Have a wonderful holiday!
