Having a good time for a long time

Having a good time for a long time

Leading the charge in what you might call a rambunctious time on planet earth is not always straightforward. In this multi-speed world: the impacts of climate change, the mutual love and fear of AI, tighter capital for brands alongside the cost of living for everyone else, post-Covid hiked prices, and a lack of great talent, leaves us agency owners feeling a bit wavy.?

So amongst this, how can working in experiential still feel good??

Re humanising work

A recent Linkedin Learning survey showed that the most “in demand skills” are creativity, persuasion, collaboration, adaptability - all things intrinsic to our industry. However these are not skills that can be simply demanded from our teammates. Rather, we must create an authentic human culture that lets these behaviors naturally bob to the surface. At Heaps + Stacks we work with a Happiness Consultant to track this monthly and share recommendations and implementations with the team, to make sure satisfaction levels remain high as our day jobs remain turbulent!?

CVs Vs company portfolios?

As people's hunger to hustle declines, it's got to be more than just about getting a payslip at the end of the month. Leaders need to consider the team's CVs as important as the company's portfolio. Using business development with a wider lens of ‘what might light the team up’ rather than only what might dazzle prospective clients, will in turn increase retention and evolve your agency into a honey pot for top talent.?

Worldbuilding within your studio??

Asides the hoi polloi going on in the world, our places of work have been voted as the #3 most stressful. Worldbuilding within the agency space also is a thing in its own right, and it makes the ship feel steady and creates a sense of belonging. Just like “It's a small world after all” at Disney Land, it's about thinking about your team as a small continent in its own right; considering the minutiae of language; how do we greet each other (a brisk handshake or the Haka?), what's our ritual cuisine of choice (Mars bars in the onsite kit?), what's our work-life norms (What time of night do people stop emailing?) and what's our beliefs (are we going to pull this off? Hell yes!).?
