Having a Goal Is Not Enough

Having a Goal Is Not Enough

Feeling stuck is hard!

Most often I see two categories of ‘stuckness.’

1.????? There are those who feel stuck and don’t know what they want.

2.????? There are those who do know what they want but can’t seem to move forward.

Both are frustrating and miserable and yet the second category are often seen as the ‘Lucky Ones!’

Are you one of the Lucky Ones? Someone who knows what you want?

Unfortunately knowing what you want is not enough to get unstuck because taking action is the difficult part.

You may have a goal. You may know what you want. You may even know what you need to do.

But then nothing happens.

You are plagued by procrastination and can’t quite get started or maintain momentum.

You perhaps tell yourself it’s not the right time to take action.

Perhaps you don’t have time to make a change right now but you also don’t have a clear timecale set when you will do it.

What is going on?

Taking action to get what you want takes COURAGE. It takes MOTIVATION. It takes A LOT of DETERMINATION and EVEN MORE RESILIENCE.

It’s not for a faint-hearted and it is very very very difficult to do alone.

It’s no wonder that putting things off or ignoring your feelings of being stuck often seems like the better option.

And then there’s the times where everything seems to go against us.

Is it a sign we should give up on the plan?

Or is it test to see how much we really want it?

Why does it feel like an uphill battle when it started with feelings of excited anticipation?

Why are there constant barriers to overcome? And that’s only the ones you can see for yourself never mind the barriers you haven’t clocked yet that are coming down the track.

So yes, it’s difficult and yes you will question whether it’s the right goal for you many many times.

But remaining stuck is worse and there are lots of things you can do to make things easier.

Here’s some more essential ingredients for that recipe to success-:

1.????? Manageable Steps: Break that plan into small steps with set timelines and stick to them.

2.????? Accountability Partner: Find someone who will check in that you’ve done what you said you would do.

3.????? Get a Cheer Leader: Things will go wrong and you will doubt yourself many times over. Having someone in your corner to help pick you up and put things back into perspective will make all the difference.

4.????? Independent Ear: Have someone to listen to what is getting in the way of progress, an independent ear can make all the difference in helping you see the woods from the trees and ask continually questions what is getting in the way and what needs to change to move forward.
