Having fun at the office
Is having fun at work important? The answer is: Yes!
Though fun at work is sometimes thought to be a distraction, research suggests that it has a positive impact on engagement, creativity, and purpose, increasing employee retention and reducing turnover. When we find tasks enjoyable, we’re more eager to dig in and complete them. When we make time for joy and laughter, we become resilient.
Interestingly, we found that the statistics were similar from year to year. 81% of employees at companies ranked as “great” described their office environments as fun.
Here are some elements that I find increasingly important to keep things moving:
1) Nothing beats music.
Allow your teammates to hear what they want, do not impose a local theme or artist to the room, respect individual tastes, and remember that some people prefer silence.
2) Vary your location.
After #covid19 our lives have become much better, allowing office workers to work from home either partially or full-time, nevertheless is important to keep a changing environment. Rotative desks are key in this part, including management is important to randomly distribute the people; no desk should become permanent.
3) Fun Messages on the wall
I understand that the "core values" of your company are important, and you want to put them on everyone's visible wall so they remember what's the company about however, those values are not the core values of everyone else in the office and most of the time they are deep moral overthink phrases, but the idea is to make the office fun, not deeply philosophical, remember most of the time your teammate is not the shareholder of this company, so we need to find more reasons other than their salary to come to the office and feel good.
There are many other points that I can bring up, but I like to keep your reading short, after all this is just a social media blog.
