Did you know last week was Public Service Recognition Week??It is a time to honor and recognize the contributions and hard work of the millions of public servants who serve our country every day. This weeklong celebration, which takes place annually during the first full week of May, is an opportunity to thank these dedicated individuals for their selfless service to our communities and our nation.
The history of Public Service Recognition Week dates back to 1985, when President Ronald Reagan established the event as a way to recognize the important work of public servants and to encourage young people to consider careers in the public sector. Since then, the week has become a cherished tradition in the United States, and is celebrated by federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as by private organizations and individuals who recognize the value of public service.
Public Service Recognition Week is a time to honor and thank all those who have served our country in public service, including the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our communities, defending our nation, and providing essential services to our citizens. This includes everyone from firefighters, police officers and municipal workers, to teachers and healthcare workers, to scientists and engineers who work to advance our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.

But the week is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges and sacrifices that public servants face in their daily work. These individuals often work long hours and face significant stress and pressure in their jobs, yet they remain committed to serving their communities and their country. They are driven by a sense of duty and a desire to make a positive impact on the world, and they deserve our respect and gratitude.
To all the former, current and future public servants, we say thank you for your service. Your dedication and hard work have made a difference in the lives of countless individuals and communities, and your contributions to our country will never be forgotten. Whether you are a federal employee, a state or local government worker, a member of the military, or a volunteer in your community, your service is appreciated and valued.
As we go about our daily routine, let us take a moment to recognize the important role that public servants play in our society. Let us honor their sacrifices and their contributions, and let us commit ourselves to supporting and valuing public service in all its forms. Together, we can build a better future for our communities and our nation.
