Have you seen a life dream fulfilled?

Have you seen a life dream fulfilled?

I think one of the dreams most parents wish for are healthy children.  After that, there is a long list that might include happiness and wealth.  Watching your children come into the world and develop brings unmeasured, happiness, and so many other emotions as they grow and become young adults.

One of my dreams was to see my four children continue their education, dream and feel passion for a field of study, to get their college degree.   In May of 2015, the last of four did in fact graduate from college.  As I watched  my son walk across the stage to accept his degree,  I had a wealth of emotions.  I felt as if I was walking across that same stage.

Any parent reading this will understand.  We play many roles in our children’s lives;  financial,  teaching , emotional and inspirational support, listening, and advising.  As parents we share not only in the happiness, but in the disappointments our children experience.  This is a piece of “who” we are, shaping our personal and business lives as well.

This month one of my daughters graduated from a master program as a physician’s assistant.   And  yes, as she crossed the stage tears started to flow,  I was a very proud parent.

As the school year ends, I’d like to applaud all the parents who have given their children life skills, ethics, character, leadership, accountability.   Your job certainly isn’t over; you have turned the page to the next chapter.  Accept that diploma whether it nursery school or grad school, smile and cry at the same time – you did it!
