I have been there on this platform since more than a decade now and I have seen LinkedIn earlier only as a job related site or business related site mainly used by professionals for boosting their B2B businesses by adding more connections and finding more about their client companies, who are the employees of the client as well as competitors and also for marketing of products and services. I was active in job market those days as I was prospecting new career opportunities and using my LinkedIn profile link to be used along with my CV for the prospective employers to check my background and credentials. The main purpose was of course get good recommendations from important people whose recommendation would add value to my profile on LinkedIn and of course that was it.
I never looked at LinkedIn other than what I have mentioned above. Till recently I was not very active on this platform as there were other social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram where I used to be more active. However, I realised slowly that those social media platforms were more of personalised in nature since you could share or access the personal information of your friends like their family members, their family events, their marital status, their selfies and photographs of various occasions travels, parties, picnics and so on.
But there was also more chance of getting your account 'hacked' as well as your photos being 'misused' for morphing by the hackers and criminals and there were so many 'fake' profiles who could be actually males in the profile of a 'female friend' and vice versa. There has been many cases of mistaken identities and breaking of marriages and families due to misuse of personal information and therefore my use of these media sites became little less interesting and safe.
If you too have observed recently since about a couple of years back, the content that is being shared on LinkedIn has seen a 'sea of change'. The earlier content was restricted to making over of your CVs for use in corporate and business related subjects of management and career guidance and change. One can now see the content of more subjects of social importance like green environment, psychological disorders, sharing of information more on animal and plants well being, welfare, care and there are also subjects which are becoming interesting for general audience who are not only interested in the monotonous CVs and Career related information.
Now the focus has shifted for the 'contents' of the posts we get to see generally to more social oriented with people sharing more openly their experiences in interviews, their personal achievements and sharing their successes and failures going into analytics of what is going wrong in the psychology of the subjects. Now we get to learn so much about Artificial Intelligence, emergence of machine learning and how it is going to affect the job market in future. People are talking about humanitarian grounds on which we need to unite, now we get to share information from various new subjects like nutrition and health, fitness and yoga, spirituality and events, love for animals and planet, art and culture, there are more shares on paintings, graphic designing, photography, music, dances, literature, movies, theatre, nature, behavioural sciences, education, local events like meets and seminars, sharing of success stories of branding, advertising, marketing, sales, technology, video and audio clips of various personalities, social work and social responsibilities, women empowerment, safety and security, atrocities and abuse committed on women & children and so on.
I mean today when I open the LinkedIn post there are so many variety of subjects discussed here on this platform it amazes me with the contents that have undergone so much of change on LinkedIn now. Even connecting with new people and tagging of connections we are getting to learn new people to be connected through the "who viewed my profile" analytics one can really get to see who all are looking at our profiles and this might also help us in getting to know our potential clients as well as employers.
I must admit that my shifting of loyalty to LinkedIn platform has made me deactivate my accounts on Facebook and I enjoy more productive and informative time here learning from so many experts from various field and keep enriching my knowledge and experience as a professional. Have you also experienced this recent change of culture on this platform from whatever I have mentioned above in this article?
