In the build-up to the launch of my book “WALKING BACK TO HAPPINESS - THE SECRET TO ALCOHOL-FREE LIVING & WELL-BEING”, to be published in June 2022, I will be sharing transcripts offering insights into the life changing experiences I encountered on my first year of going alcohol-free.
The more I found out about gratitude and its powers, the more I built it into my daily life. I initially thought of it like software. I needed to install both a gratitude app and ingratitude protection software that prevented feelings of ingratitude growing inside me. It was like being vaccinated against ingratitude just by being more grateful.
I am now more content than I have been since my teenage years. A major part of the secret to achieving this is down to that one word, GRATITUDE. For me, it’s a fast lane to well-being, by appreciating what ‘you have’ as opposed to the things ‘you don’t have’ and understanding what ‘enough’ means.
Our million-plus-year-old human brain is designed for survival – fight or flight. This is why it's always busy looking for what's wrong. Cultivating gratitude has been proved to prime our brain to look for the good in things – not the bad.
We are all guilty, some more than others, of looking for the bad in things. It is human nature. But life is so much better when you look for the good in things.
To cultivate gratitude and build and strengthen your gratitude muscle, write down in a diary or notebook three things that you are grateful for every day. Do this for a month.
By practising gratitude, you will start to feel better about yourself, others will warm to you and you will altogether have a better life!
