If so, it is unlikely you are even aware of it.
Unconscious (or Implicit) Bias, has gripped the imagination to a greater degree than any other idea in psychology in recent decades. A landmark paper by the University of Washington & Yale lifted the veil on people's subconscious attitude towards others, the team spoke of "a new tool that measures the unconscious roots of prejudice" that affects 90-95% of people.
And if it isn't enough that Unconscious Bias is creeping around your subconscious without you knowing, it also comes in a variety of forms - more than 150 various forms actually. Some experts say it is actually closer to the 200 mark!
Maybe you see something favourable in a candidate and hired them:
- Because of how attractive they are? (Beauty Bias)
- Because your colleagues feel they are the right person for the role? (Conformity Bias)
- Because they have one, stand out great feature? (Halo Effect)
- Because they share qualities or interests with you? (Affinity Bias)
