Have You Heard the One About

Have You Heard the One About

The urge to write this was resisted nearly all day. I told myself, beginning last night, New Year’s Eve, 2018, “Robin, you WILL NOT write about the New Year, but here we are. It’s not about resolutions, aka 24-hour fables, but something more relevant, which is why I was adamant about withstanding the temptation to bring up….

Our stories. The “stories” we all make up as we enter a new year, a new phase of our lives, a new relationship, a new job, you get it. The story we make up about how awesome our life is, and what a magnificent year we just had.

If we all decided to come clean, we’d also tell the stories of hurt, of disappointment, of regret.  We can't bear to gaze at the wounds, but we sure will gloat about the victories. We can talk about the scars, only after years of stockpiling the hurt. Instead of feeling the hurt as it’s happening, we push it aside, until we can no longer push it any further. Until a scar appears. Besides, scars are so much easier to look at compared to an open bloody wound.

We all make up stories. Our humanness struggles to make sense of hurt we experience. Our human egos inflate the victories. Since we were children, we’ve been taught and encouraged to not feel the difficult emotions, so the stories we create only make sense...

I had to ask myself, “What story am I walking into this “New Year” with? Is it a story of triumph as well as regret? Am I being clear with myself?

My Happy New Year begins with celebrating all the amazing accomplishments as well as owning my regrets. Owning and accepting. Not attempting to repair, not blaming, just acknowledging.

Awareness will do its thing, then clarity will take over.

We are all one, we are all connected. Intertwined. All tied together by our humanity. We are all looking for the same validation. The validation that we are worthy, lovable, and seen.

YOU are the author of YOUR story. Walk into it with the awareness that you ARE lovable. You ARE worthy. Walk in honestly. Walk in with courage.

Good work, Robin! Wonderful sentiment: "We are all one, we are all connected. Intertwined. All tied together by our humanity. We are all looking for the same validation. The validation that we are worthy, lovable, and seen."
